Parents need to play with their children. Not just for the kids’ sake, but for the parents! As the parent of an only-child, I sometimes feel intense pressure to join playtime with my daughter simply because there is no other alternative unless she’s on a playdate.

I had to learn the balance– when to play and when to tell her” entertain yourself.” She’s an independent gal and so I think I have done a good job at balancing the two, but still…there are times I could play more, and do “work” less. Here are some reasons parents should be playing more with the kids!

5 Reasons Parents Need to Join Playtime With The Kids

1- Shows Our Kids We Love Them

Setting time aside for fun whether it’s to color, build with Legos or join in on a game of Monopoly, is a must! When parents set aside their adult chores and join in on the fun, it shows children how much we love them. Not only that but when we get in on playtime with the kids, we’re investing quality time in our kiddos and telling them we love them.

2-  We Learn About Our Kids

When we play with our kiddos, we learn about them. We learn about what they like, what they don’t like. We learn about their strengths, weaknesses and personalities! Plus… the fact is/

3- Kids Learn Through Playtime

Kids learn and actively manipulate and understand their environment while playing. Knowing that your children are learning while having fun should make you want to join in on the fun. It’s a moment to get to understand your children– and a moment for your kids to learn about you!

4-  Parenthood is More Than Basic Care

Taking time out to enjoy whatever your children are enjoying as a play activity is part of parenthood. It’s not all about bedtime routines, meal-making, and boo-boo fixing. What fun is it anyway to always be worried about the grind and schedule? Sometimes you have to let go too, Moms and Dads!

5-  It’s Good For You Mom and Dad

When you’re playing Mom or Dad, you’re getting a chance to relax and de-stress. This is good for you!
